Dourif Time | Deadwood S1E2 | Dudes Daily
Deadwood has the courage to depict dudes with such rancid vibes that other people are immediately ready to kill them. It's hard to imagine almost any other TV show, regardless of era, establishing character conflict so implicitly and emotionally. Though it's truly the antithesis of wiki-driven storytelling.
Last week I noted that Brad Dourif barely rated in the show's cast of dudes. Well, now it's just his show, whenever he's onscreen. The only cast member who can even compete in this episode is Ian McShane, and he's got the benefit of being supernaturally evil. He basically gets to walk around Deadwood with the JJBA menacing onomatopoeia.
