Don't Forget to Kill Tim | Deadwood S1E1 | Dudes Daily

Great pilot, and truly full of dudes. Kind of incredible to see a show where Brad Dourif is the the fourth most notable character actor onscreen, though I expect that to change with more screentime.
This show has one of the best opening scenes I've seen on TV. You can really see why they cast Olyphant as the exact same character in Justified. In fact, it feels like a lot of Justified might be in this show, though I'm curious to see if that holds up.
All the dynamism of the different characters coming into town manages to stay very coherent and traceable, and I think wisely a lot of the minor characters have very clear roles or are killed by the end of the episode. I'll be interested to see if the storytelling of the show sustains this level of complexity, or if the density of plotlines here is just establishing the characters and premise of the show.
I don't have high hopes for how this show will treat its women, though I'm open to being surprised. Calamity Jane in particular feels like a fulcrum where the show will likely show its hand there.
While I was grabbing the screenshot for this post, I noticed that Bullock doesn't even fire his gun in the final shooting. Hickok is not to be fucked with, it would seem.
