This episode features two different shots of women making Significant Eye Contact from across a room or hallway. It is unclear what we should make of this, as they don't speak to each other at all.
After the pilot, I was really curious about where the show was taking its woman characters. Now that something of a baseline has been established, it's not looking great. Trixie and the other sex workers have basically zero characterization, Alma's sole character note is her addiction.
I've been really surprised by Calamity Jane's wholesale sidelining into a maternal role, which would never have been my prediction from the pilot. I'm hopeful that the show uses that tension profitably to spur some character growth, but I wouldn't bet on it.
