Is the Devil Way Down in the Hole Yet? | The Wire S1E13 | Dudes Daily
I found this season finale to be perfectly fine, but I was very aware of how misaligned I was from the characters in it. I can't really bring myself to feel upset about the plea deal or the end of the investigation in the way that feels intended. And I certainly don't share Bunk's disappointment that Kima won't falsely identify Wee Bey as one of her shooters.
It is interesting how D'Angelo's mom is invented one episode ago to come in here and sew up D for the end of the season. I'm open to her being a bigger force in the organization next season, but as it stands it feels like you can see the seams a bit. Similarly, D's kid seems to fade in and out of existence as convenient; I suppose you could argue that mirrors his own orientation to fatherhood, but it also feels a little thin.
McNulty getting busted down to the Marine unit and Lester getting back to Homicide feels right; if the show ended on this final montage it would be A-okay with me.
