Questionable Therapeutic Professionalism | The Sopranos S1E6 | Dudes Daily
I'm not trained as a therapist, but I feel like Melfi should push back more firmly on Tony's advances. I was a bit suspicious of this infatuation plot at first, but the episode seems to end with it resolved, which is the perfect amount of screentime for something like this. If that's the case, this was a lesson in restraint every show following The Sopranos has totally failed to learn.
Carmela being woken up by Tony in the middle of the night and immediately offering sex is one of the funniest moments of the show so far.
This episode also reaffirms my reading that Livia Soprano is the secret boss of the North Jersey mob, directly "suggesting" political moves to Junior and then tactically deflecting Tony's request for intervention with feigned uninvolvement. I truly didn't see this coming from the show's setup, but it works incredibly.
